A fifth of employees 'suffering frustration at work'
Posted on 31 July 2008
Some 20 per cent of UK workers are frustrated in their current job, a new poll has suggested.
Research from global management consultancy the Hay Group has shown half of all employees believe they lack real decision making authority in the course of their daily duties.
Ben Hubbard, regional director for EMEA at Hay Groups employee survey division, said "the frustrated employee phenomenon poses a major business risk and a significant missed opportunity".
He added: "With fierce competition for the most talented employees, companies efforts to engage their people will be wasted if not backed by a supportive and enabling environment."
With this in mind, more UK workers may consider becoming self-employed working as a contractor where the onus is squarely on them is to demonstrate their skills to potential employers, or perhaps establishing their own start-up.
The Hay Group study was conducted among more than 3,100 business leaders across 12 industries.
