ATSCo's service provider members to require 'service checks'
Posted on 20 August 2008
Members of the Association of Technology Staffing Companies (ATSCo) who provide accountancy or umbrella company services will now have to pass service checks which have been devised by HM Revenue and Customs.
According to ATSCo, the new compulsory compliance checks for the recruitment industry will mitigate the added risk to staffing companies of transacting business with contractor services providers.
The inspections - to be carried out annually - will make sure that such companies are compliant with tax and employment legislation.
Marilyn Davidson, director of ATSCo, said: "The risks of non-compliance for providers of tax and employment related services to contractors has increased significantly and the introduction of debt transfer rules has heightened the risk for staffing companies transacting business with these suppliers."
The compliance reviews will be carried out by Professional Passport.
Recently, the ATSCo found that many of its members were taking on second jobs in order to cope with the credit crunch, adding extra pressures at work.
