Most UK citizens do wish to work, but not every hour in the day, one psychotherapist has claimed.

According to Derek Draper, a contributor to the Psychologies magazine, people either need the money provided by regular employment, or the find it "satisfying" and "fulfilling".

Commenting on full-time employment, Mr Draper proposed that women were no different to men in their attitude, with neither gender appreciating the long hours worked by UK employees.

He was responding to comments made by magazine editor Maureen Rice, suggesting many women were becoming frustrated with the demands of nine to five employment.

She stated that women enjoyed the money, independence and power that working provided, but many increasingly found it a "crazy" way to live.

The New Luxuries Female Lifestyle Study published by Psychologies magazine indicated that 65 per cent of women desire a job that fits in with their lifestyle, while 55 per cent wish they had more time to spend with their partner.

Flexible working through an employment agency may be an option for individuals seeking to address their work-life balance.
