Contractors 'broadening their horizons'
Posted on 8 October 2008
Contractors may need to review their working styles as blue-chip companies conduct reviews of their staffing levels, new research has indicated.
A study commissioned by recruitment process outsourcer Alexander Mann Solutions (AMS), reveals that 41 per cent of contractors expect to see more competition for employment during 2009 as new jobseekers enter the market.
Matthew Rodger, director at Alexander Mann Solutions, says more contractors are changing the way they operate "by recognising the importance of good brands and changing the way they assess contracts" as they strive to secure future placements.
Also revealed by the Global Contingent Worker Poll, conducted by independent research company Loudhouse, was that 76 per cent of contractors believe pay is the most important consideration when deciding whether to accept a contract or not.
Contractors may enjoy certain benefits not experienced by permanent staff, including greater flexibility, higher rates of pay, tax breaks and umbrella company support.
