Employees 'must be challenged' at work
Posted on 4 September 2008
Professionals who do not feel sufficiently challenged in the workplace are likely to change employer, according to new research.
A study conducted by TalentDrain has indicated that graduates especially may look for a new job if they feel they are lacking intrinsic benefits in the course of their employment.
Speaking to Consultant News, company director Ron Eldridge suggested workers wanted "challenge and advancement", adding that they would "vote with their feet if their organisation cannot deliver"
He suggested that firms risk losing employees to rival businesses if they fail to adequately consider their ambitions.
For some professionals, the opportunity to work as a self-employed contractor may be appealing, with advantages such as flexible working and choice of projects.
Seeking temporary work through umbrella companies or starting a new business are other options available to those seeking a career challenge.
