Employers 'willing to pay more' for right staff
Posted on 10 November 2008
New figures published by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation indicate that employers are prepared to pay more than last year for desired staff.
Turnover in the recruitment industry rose by 21.7 per cent between April 2007 and March 2008, from £3.514 billion to £4.276 billion on permanent placements.
Since the number of employment opportunities fell during this period, the average fee per placement increased.
Kevin Green, the RECs chief executive, said the "huge growth" in permanent recruitment turnover showed that employers were prepared to offer more for the right candidate.
He added: "This remains the case even in the changing employment climate. The downturn is really putting the skills of professional recruiters to the test but at the same time, this is giving them a real opportunity to shine and show employers what they are really made of."
The REC is the trade body that supports and represents the £27 billion-per-year UK recruitment industry.
