Flexible working 'a boost' to Yorkshire firm
Posted on 15 October 2008
Small businesses seeking a competitive advantage may wish to follow the lead of a Yorkshire-based lingerie firm, which continues to benefit from the adoption of flexible working practices
Earlier this summer, the government praised the Bella di Notte lingerie firm in Helmsley for offering opportunities to working mothers, reports the Northern Echo.
Now Royal Mail has echoed such sentiments by using the firm as a case study in a new campaign geared at driving success among smaller enterprises.
Employees at the firm work between BST 09:00 and 15:00 - allowing them to drop of their children at school and collect them at the end of the day but despite the reduced working day profits have continued to soar.
Speaking to the news provider, company founder Susan Johnson said: Bella di Notte has benefited enormously from the right advice given to us at the right time. Today, the company has 45,000 customers, a turnover of about £2 million and has extended its range from lingerie to include cardigans, camisoles and much more.
Earlier in 2008, ministers announced plans to extend flexible working entitlements to all parents of children aged up to 16.
