The government has pledged to pay its own bills to small businesses within ten working days, in order to ease their financial pressures, it has been reported.

Skills secretary John Denham said the deadline for payment would be cut from 30 days, stating that it was vital to ensure that small businesses had cash flow, reports the BBC.

This measure would push billions of pounds into small businesses, he stated.

Mr Denham also released details of a new £350 million investment in the re-training of workers – a further scheme aimed at managing the level of UK unemployment.

Adding that training had been proven to boost profitability within business, the skills secretary said the government wanted to ensure workers had access to short courses.

Earlier this week, Conservative Party leader David Cameron called for tax reductions of 1p in the pound to be made for small business owners.
