Incentive schemes 'should include temps'
Posted on 28 August 2008
Agency workers should be included in any business incentive schemes introduced by employers, it has been claimed.
Derrick Hardman, managing director of Capital Incentives and Motivation, claims this is the best way for employers to tackle the problem of a lack of affinity and commitment to their employer, maximising temp contributions in the workplace.
Writing for HR Zone, he says performance schemes need to motivate all the employees in a firm for the whole of the time meaning pro rata payments should be available to employees leaving the firm before such a programme ends.
He states: "Incentive programmes generally focus on short-term objectives. If temporary or contract workers help the organisation to achieve these goals, then the investment in motivation has not been wasted."
Mr Hardman also comments that performance-related benefits for employees can encourage them to stay with a company for a longer period of time.
Personnel Today reported last month that more employers are employing temps to avoid the costs of hiring permanent staff members.
