The IT contracting sector remains "very healthy", it has been claimed today.

Website itcontractor.com claims numerous factors have combined to ensure the credit crunch has not had an adverse affect on IT contractors.

The banking industry is the only area within the sector suffering from the current economic climate, the source claims.

Factors such as a lack of previously seen "boom conditions" and insufficient time since the last downturn mean the field has remained healthy, the website adds.

Meanwhile, companies realise while the loss of contractors is "an easy way to save money", firms now realise doing so will put projects behind schedule, the article continues.

Elsewhere, the increasing importance of technology and predicted worldwide economy growth means the industry is in good shape, the website concludes.

These views are backed up by recent claims there has been a 20 per cent increase in the number of entry level IT jobs when compared with two years ago, according to Shout99.
