Small firms operating in the IT sector have been least affected by the global economic slowdown, a new study has indicated.

Figures published by LaunchLab.co.uk indicate that most service and supplies providers have not been adversely affected, while around a third claim to have benefitted from the changing commercial environment, reports contractoruk.com.

LaunchLab.co.uk founder Dan Matthews told the news provider that many small businesses had "adapted to the gloom" to witness personal growth.

He added: "While the economy as a whole is slipping into negative growth, there are pockets of success everywhere.

"It is inspiring to find that in amongst all the frightening headlines a good proportion of entrepreneurs are thriving."

Last month, BusinessZone.co.uk reported that small firms could establish, build and maintain business relationships by using the internet.

More than half of the firms questioned in a poll conducted by the website said they would dedicate more time to online networking during the coming 12 months.
