NHS compensation 'possible for contractors'
Posted on 3 September 2008
A number of contractors are attempting to pursue compensation claims against the NHS over problems with the implementation of the services computerised system.
Fujitsu Siemens, which was a contractor for the NHS's IT programme, is reported to be looking for £700 million from the Department of Health after its £1 billion contract was terminated, reports Contractor.co.uk.
Norman Lamb, the Liberal Democrat shadow health secretary, commented: "Fujitsu's £700m legal action is yet more evidence of a failing project which has caused enormous frustration and exasperation for doctors and hospital staff."
Sources recently revealed to the Independent suggest that the company is now ready to go to court to claim back the full amount it would have received for the entire care records system.
The computerisation of NHS records was due to be completed by 2010, but reports earlier this year revealed that it may not be up and running until 2014, reports Sky News.
