Office employing working 'out of hours'
Posted on 30 May 2008
Use of modern technological appliances is leading to office employees working longer hours, a new study has claimed.
Crowne Plaza research has indicated 33 per cent of workers are available to work at any time of the day, reports Recruiter Magazine.
Some 33 per cent of workers reportedly take items such as laptops on holiday with them, while it was also claimed up to 60 per cent of office workers have their mobile phone with them in bed.
A spokesman for the Crowne Plaza hotel chain told the Daily Mail that the modern world was "seduced by technology".
He added: "A big part of this is people genuinely loving their work, but its also about knowing when to sit back in a big comfy chair with a nice glass of chilled sauvignon blanc and forget all about work.
One of the major benefits of self-employment is the ability to choose a working pattern suited to the individual.
The Telegraph reported on Wednesday how increasing numbers of American office workers are being allowed to choose their own hours for work.
