'Rise' in regional IT recruitment
Posted on 23 October 2008
IT contractors may be interested in a new study suggesting a number of UK regions have seen increased recruitment activity within the sector.
According to a study conducted by ReThink Recruitment, the north-west, south-west and West Midlands have all seen increases in their share of the IT jobs market during the last two years.
The increases, partially offset by a reduction in the number of IT workers employed in London, may be indicative of new types of working roles within the sector, as ReThink Recruitment managing director Jon Butterfield explains:
"Despite many investment banks cutting jobs in some areas, in others, such as compliance and risk management, they are boosting IT staff numbers as they develop systems to mitigate risks in volatile markets.
"Consolidation in the financial services sector will also create a need for IT specialists to integrate disparate systems," he states.
Graduates seeking work in the UK IT sector may be able to improve their chances by undertaking work experience, according to Alison Clark of the National Association of Student Employment Services.
