UCAS figures 'boost IT contractors'
Posted on 1 September 2008
IT contractors have been boosted by latest university figures released by UCAS, according to a source.
Research by the further education body shows 8,000 students have this year enrolled on computing courses, reports itcontractor.com.
The figure is far lower than those seen in the 1990s and is likely to result in increased demand for workers, the website states.
Difficulty to break into the industry without a degree combined with less students on courses means solid job prospects for contractors, the source adds.
According to latest figures from e-skills there are one million IT workers in the UK, a quarter of which are contractors, the website states.
The news comes after recent research showed fears of offshoring in the industry have been unfounded, with a 20 per cent rise in the number of entry level IT jobs over the last two years, reports Shout99.
