UK employees 'are in the wrong job'
Posted on 3 September 2008
A recent survey found that 45 per cent of the UK workforce thought that they either chose the wrong career or were not sure if the one they were in was right for them.
The Global Workforce Index conducted by Kelly Services found that 20 per cent were sure that they had chosen a job that was unsuitable for them, reports PersonnelToday.com.
With such a low level of satisfaction with current careers in the UK, self-employment may prove to be an even more attractive option for the future.
Working in this way will enable workers to select the field they wish to branch into and provide them with a flexibility of hours - and choice of colleagues - they would not have within a corporate structure.
Chris Moore, managing director of Kelly Services, commented:"Regrettably, someone who discovers that they are in the wrong career is probably not as productive as they could be and may be missing out on a more fulfilling professional life."
The Citizens Advice Bureau recommends that those thinking of working for themselves consider choosing a job that utilises their existing skills and experience or something that has previously been a hobby.
