Umbrella contractors with IT skills are set to find themselves in greater demand over the next five years, a new study has suggested.

According to research conducted by e-skills, levels of employment within the IT and telecoms sectors are set to increase at five times the national average during the next decade.

The number of people employed in these sectors is set to rise by 2.19 per cent between now and 2015.

Experienced IT professionals in particular will be highly sought-after, the organisation predicted, as 110,000 professionals enter the IT workforce for the first time.

Meanwhile, e-skills UK has reported that the IT and telecoms sectors contribute £81 billion per year for the national economy.

To put this figure into context, this is the exact same amount the government is looking to save through its programme of public sector budget cuts over the next four years.
