The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has joined the small business consultative committee at the Office of Tax Simplification (OTS).
Launched by the Chancellor last year, the OTS has responsibility for advising the government on simplifying the tax system.
It is currently undertaking a review of IR35 legislation, which is designed to prevent employed workers from avoiding tax by assuming the guise of a freelancer.
Gillian Econopouly, the REC’s head of policy, said the REC welcomes the work of the OTS and is pleased to join the business committee.
“We look forward to representing our members’ views in this important forum,” she stated.
“The OTS’ work comes at a critical time for the economy and the recruitment industry, and we will use this opportunity to promote a tax system that is more navigable and transparent for businesses.”
