Demand for IT contractors 'remains high'
Posted on 8 December 2008
The outlook for IT contractors is not entirely gloomy, despite the current economic downturn, according to a new study.
Research conducted by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) indicates that IT workers rate their confidence in the current market as being six out of ten.
The mark was only slightly down on the seven out of ten given at the previous meeting of the REC's IT & Comms Sector Group.
Statistics collected by the REC echoed the finding, suggesting that the number of workers in the IT sector increased during the second and third quarters of the year, even though the number of advertised vacancies fell.
Jeff Brooks, chair of the IT & Comms group, compared the demand for IT contractors to that of healthcare workers, claiming it to have remained "high".
He added: "Specialist IT job roles are still vital to the economy."
Last month, REC chief executive Kevin Green suggested that the UK employment market was "under pressure".
